Key Concepts: Domain

 Domain   

A domain is the unique address of a website on the internet, which users type into their browser to access a website. Think of it as the address of a house, but for your website.

  • Example      : www.example.com
  • Structure of a Domain:
    • Top-Level Domain (TLD): The suffix or extension at the end of a domain name, like .com, .org, .net, .edu, etc.
    • Second-Level Domain (SLD): The part that comes before the TLD, like ‘example’ in www.example.com.
    • Subdomain(Optional): A prefix added before the SLD to create divisions within a website, e.g., blog.example.com.
  • Domain Registration: You need to purchase a domain from a domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap) to make your website accessible to others.

Importance of Domain Names:

  • Brand Identity: A good domain helps establish a brand or personal identity online.
  • SEO Benefits: A relevant domain name can improve your search engine ranking.
  • Ease of Access A memorable domain name makes it easier for users to find your site.

Summary
Domain: Your website’s address (URL) that users type into the browser to visit your site.
Hosting: The service that stores your website files and makes your site available on the internet.
CMS: A platform that allows you to build, manage, and maintain your website without needing to write code.
These three components—domain, hosting, and CMS—are fundamental to building and maintaining a website. Together, they provide the framework and infrastructure needed to establish an online presence.
